Our first love

Ryokou

Ryokou - meaning "Journey" in Japanese - was our first ever branded content documentary series. It tells the story of Australian cyclist Shane Perkins as he reflects on his life while training and competing in the secluded competition of the Keirin.

We knew of Shane through the media reports over the years. As one of Australia’s and the World’s most powerful cyclists, due to some incidents he’d been cast as a bit of a hot-head and an outsider. So when we heard his own version of events, and how he almost walked away from the sport he loved, but was saved from an invitation to the secretive Japanese Keirin, we knew we had to tell his story. So with the help of Onitsuka Tiger, we soon found ourselves in Japan, pointing cameras at Shane as he trained in the remote jungles of Japan. 5 episodes were made for an international release on Cycling Tips and we also reformatted it into a half-hour documentary for SBS. It remains to this day one of our favourite ventures but what we were most proud of was to have given Shane the opportunity to tell his story.
